Press Release
05/26/2004

On Saturday May 22, volunteers of the India Association of New Hampshire (IANH) visited the Nashua Soup kitchen and cooked and served hot meal to over eighty homeless in the Nashua area. Preparations for the activity began on Friday night when Barinder Ahluwalia, Public Service Committee Chair arranged a potluck and “veggie preparation” at her home. Gurmeet Kaur, Padma Mathur, Geeta Prabhakar, Aprajitha Manchanda, Dimple Mehra, Vandana Dhakar, Sima Mazzu, and Sushila Kothari of the “veggie team” helped to process the veggies for lasagna. The ladies enjoyed a nice time working together.

The cooking team headed by Vandana Dhakar assembled at 10:30 AM to prepare vegetarian lasagna, salad, and garlic bread. The Soup kitchen provided garlic bread and dessert plus some volunteer help. Kala Kumar, Usha Dasari, Raj Jain, Ninder Singh, and Prithvi Kumar helped the cooking team. Gurmeet Kaur, Lalba Verma, Gargi Das, and Sima Mazzu joined the team later and served dinner from 4:00 PM. The activity concluded at 6:00 PM.

Helping homeless in the area has been the main focus of IANH Public Service activity. This is the third time IANH organized dinner service. IANH also helps the homeless through monthly food drop off at homeless shelter and donation of blankets and bed linen. IANH also offers programs for young adults.
