Idea is to make them productive citizens. The program was started in 1985 with five children when a visiting saint from Kolkata talked to a member of VHPA about how he was taking care of five children of destitute parents in his Ashram to protect them for a dark future and life of crime. This inspired members of VHPA's governing body to start Support A Child project.   Today, SAC supports 3,065 children in 20 states through generous donations by caring NRIs. SAC works with the help of volunteers here in the USA and Bharat.
