Karnatic Hindustani Music Circle (KHMC) continues with virtual concerts during this pandemic

Karnatic Hindustani Music Circle (KHMC) is excited to continue to present concerts, this time only more rigorously. During these unique times of social distancing and a halt on in-person events, KHMC decided to move to a virtual platform and host mini-concerts on a weekly basis on its Facebook page. So every Sunday, since the end of April, KHMC has been featuring an hour-long mini concerts for the enjoyment and appreciation of music lovers all across the country. These concerts provide a platform for local teachers, students and musicians an opportunity to present their music, although artists from as far as Maryland and Illinois have performed so far. The concert repertoire consists of two 30-minute segments with one segment devoted to Hindustani music and the other focusing on Carnatic music. Both vocal and instrumentals are included and concerts happen every Sunday, 5-6 PM.

On August 23, KHMC offered a tribute concert to Hindustani music maestro, Padmavibhushan Pandit Jasraj, where the committee members, Neelima Chaturvedi, Jeyanthi Ghatraju, Uma Sankar, Vandana Rao and Vaishnavi Kondapalli presented a short piece as their way of offering their respects to Pandit ji, fondly called as Bade Guru ji by his followers. Smitha Krishnan presented the Carnatic segment with so much verve. Here is a link to the youTube recording of the session. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc0dlmrUcBZRm6io7_pMzhg?view_as=subscriber

Last Sunday, August 30, KHMC showcased two artists – Anirban Dasgupta, an accomplished Sarod musician from New England at 5:00 pm, and Vedavarshini Raghavan, a Carnatic vocalist at 5:30 pm.
