Girl Talks: Girls Inspiring Girls and Motivational Speaking

When 12 year old Sarina Chand was feeling a bit isolated at home due to the Stay At Home issued by the Governor of Massachusetts in response to the COVID19 State of Emergency, she began thinking of ideas on how to bring people - and especially other girls- together during this difficult time. The result of her brainstorming was "Girl Talks" an online platform to connect girls in an inspiring, safe and encouraging environment. She decided to host guest Speakers bi-weekly for a zoom session and invites girls of all ages to join in to listen, learn, ask questions and contribute to the conversation. Sarina created a website and is busy building a social media presence for the platform, so that she can reach a broader audience.

In her introductory blog post on the website Sarina described it as "Girls inspiring Girls. Girl Talks is a community where girls teach girls. We have zoom meetings where girls and young women speak about their experiences, thoughts, and feelings. Our mission is to create a space where girls want to be, a place where they feel confident, welcomed, and inspired. We want to support girls in a unique, interactive way. This idea was originally conceived by Sarina, who thought about what might make girls more confident, what might cause them to want to be strong and proud of who they are and who they want to be. We want girls to hold onto their dreams, to pursue what they want without hesitation. We hope you enjoy!"

Sarina, now 13, has been busy coordinating inspirational women and girls in various fields to speak during the bi-weekly Girl Talks, and encourages the audience to ask questions and even play games during the zoom session.

Girl Talks' mission is to inspire girls from everywhere to be their best selves. With an encouraging platform and welcoming environment, Girl Talks aims to help girls raise each other up. This is an opportunity for girls to share their visions, thoughts, and experiences with other girls. For girls by girls.

Sarina has been joined by her friends Sana and Saha Reddy in coordinating the upcoming Girl Talks Sessions and events.

The next session will be Friday, August 21st at 2pm and will talk about Art and Poetry with guest speaker Poppy Charnalia.

Sarina describes the session on her blog: https://sarinachand07.wixsite.com/girltalks/blog

With the onset of the Stay at Home order, and the need for Social distancing due to the Pandemic, Sarina and her friends are trying to find ways to bring girls together and give them a sense of certainty and hope among all the uncertainty we are experiencing in our world today.

Guest Speakers have ranged from Graduating High Schoolers talking about their Covid19 Senior year on the last day of School, to a professor of Women's Studies discussing gender barriers and how to break them down, to an a guided meditation and breathing exercise, to a doctor discussing the best ways to stay safe and healthy during the pandemic.

This is a free and open platform for girls of all ages. The bi-weekly talks are led by inspirational women of South Asian descent. Every new Girl Talk focuses on different issues and fields with much for girls to learn and find encouragement in the women who lead our community. Please have your daughter join the Zoom today at 6pm. Please register and check the blog for further details and the Zoom invitation.

All girls are welcome to join in!
