Seeking Bharatanatyam Dancers And Actors

CASTING CALL FOR DANCE PRODUCTIONS

Eastern Rhythms (Director - Ranjani Saigal) in conjunction with Tufts University and the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth seeks Bharatanatyam dancers with a minimum 5-6 years of dance training (post-Arangetram preferred) to be part of two dance productions.

The Story of the Planets

This is a dance-drama that draws from ancient Indian texts on astronomy and astrology to tell the story of the planets and their perceived influence on our lives.

Requirements: Minimum 5-6 years of training (preferably post-Arangetram), ages – 13 and up. We also welcome senior dancers to be part of the group. The training will take place in early June through mid-July and the performance is expected to be in early August. Dance training will be provided by Fulbright Scholar, Smt. Kausalya Srinivasan, Chennai, India. The music has been composed and recorded by well-known musicians in Chennai India.

The Story of DNA

This is an experimental project which tries to tell the story of DNA through dance. The students will be study the concepts under the guidance of a chemistry professor. They will be provided dance training by Fulbright Scholar, Smt. Kausalya Srinivasan from Chennai, India.

Requirements: Minimum 5-6 years of experience (preferably post-Arangetram). You must be a eighth grader or a high school student. The project will take place mid-July through the end of August.

The music has been composed and recorded by leading musicians in Chennai, India.

Dancers may choose to be part of both productions if they meet the requirements.

CASTING FOR SHORT FILM
“The Voodoo Dancer”

Eyedea Productions will be holding auditions for “The Voodoo Dancer”, a New York Film Academy Graduate thesis film to be shot in Boston from May 15 to 22, 2004.

The film will be directed by Harbaldeep Singh and will be shot by professional crew from New York and Boston. The film will be shot on 16mm.

The Voodoo dancer is a super natural thriller about a teenager boy whose body is captivated by a ghost of a female classical Indian dancer.

Each role is very important to the texture of the film, and needs a great deal of personality. Please keep this in mind and submit creatively. We are casting the following principals:

Jennifer (40’s) – Caucasian – She is married to an Indian husband and has a 15-year-old son. She is a caring wife but is over-protective of her son. She does not believe in ghosts.

Gautam (40’s) – Indian, Pakistani or South Asian descent – He is married to Jennifer. He wants his widow mother to move in with them but Jennifer is afraid of her voodoo habits and the effect it will have on their son.

Rohini (Early 20’s) – Second-generation Indian, Pakistani or South Asian descent – Indian classical dancing is a must.

Mother Superior (Voice over only) - Deep persuasive voice.

There is NO PAY involved. Meals, Transportation and copy of the finished project will be provided to you.

Auditions will be done in New York as well as in Boston. If casted, accommodation will be provided in Boston for New York resident actors.
