DCA Helps In COVID Efforts

05/07/2020

Dharma Center of America (DCA), a non-profit that started in 2017 with the goal of providing nutritious food to the needy, has raised nearly $20,000 to help supply meals and groceries to individuals and organizations affected by the Coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis.

DCA ran successful Facebook and GoFundMe campaigns to collect the donations from the community, with a goal to serve the neighborhoods that are most affected.

DCA is currently providing hot meals to the Lowell Transitional Living Center (a homeless shelter) . So far, DCA has provided 500+ meals to the residents of the homeless shelter. In addition, DCA is also actively working with  “On the Rise” in Cambridge, and People Helping People food pantry in Burlington with groceries.

While helping these organizations feed those in need, DCA is also helping local businesses to survive the economic challenges. DCA is purchasing food from local restaurants in Lowell and surrounding communities to supply food to the shelters.

More than eleven Indian-American organizations have come together in this effort to support local businesses and help hundreds of people with their nutritional needs. DCA is powered by more than 50 volunteers who plan and execute these efforts daily.

Dharma Center of America is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization running a food pantry, providing after-school academic support, and Yoga classes taught by a certified Yoga instructor. This service is intended to benefit residents who live on fixed incomes or do not have the means to afford basic nutritious meals on a weekly basis.
