Festival Of Lights 2019 Town Of Ashland

On October 19, 2019 the Town of Ashland and the Ashland Indians Club, a local organization run by volunteers hosted its annual Diwali event successfully for the 2nd year. The Corner Spot in the town was decorated to brighten up the already gorgeous day and create the festive atmosphere. This Diwali event came into being as a result of the diversity initiative greatly supported by the Town of Ashland. One could see that joy, love and friendship tightly binds this South Asian community in a small town of Ashland.

Town Manager Mr. Michael Herbert, has supported and sponsored this official town event. He is very appreciative of the Indian community and takes great pride in town's diversity  initiative. State  Senate President,
Ms. Karen  Spilka, graced  the  occasion this year. She spoke highly about how the Indian community is an integral part of the society and how this festival of lights brings color, spreads joy in the community.

Rangoli (popularly known as sand art) contest was held comprising of 12 teams both children and adults, each participating to showcase their talent. Designs were creative and varied in true nature of the festival. Winners were chosen by public voting.

The event was attended by more than 250 people from within the town and some from the neighboring towns as well. Delicious Indian food was available and served by the Curry house of Franklin, Henna art, Diya (earthen candle holders) and Jewelry items were on sale during the event.
 
Agenda also featured vocal and traditional dance performances by adults and children, an initiative to support and encourage local talent. The highlight of the event was the Dhol by the Tasha and Group drawing the celebration to a grand end.

The town of Ashland, organizers and volunteers of the Ashland Indian Club made this Corner Spot Diwali event a grand success!
