The Fluid Soul...Seeking the Divine Within

The Natick Center Cultural District

 

 The Natick Center Cultural District and the Common St. Spiritual Center are happy to announce a soul stirring evening of music and dance featuring eminent musician Phil Scarff on the soprano saxophone along with mesmerizing Odissi dance artist Mouli Pal. A refreshing experience where the artists converse to bring to life abstract poetic moods based on traditional Indian concepts. The ultimate goal is to realize that the undying sFloul constantly attempts to mingle into the Supreme Divine who manifests in all living beings.

Phil is pioneering performance of North Indian classical music on soprano saxophone, exquisitely capturing the subtlety and depth of this music on this Western instrument. Performances include India's Tansen Samaroh (Gwalior), Nehru Center and Dadar-Matunga Cultural Centre (Mumbai), Saptak School of Music (Ahmedabad), Hirai Music Festival (Chandrapur), Indian Council for Cultural Relations and India Habitat Centre (Delhi), and Deval Club (Kolhapur). Phil is also a master jazz saxophonist and is featured on over 35 CDs/DVDs.

Mouli is an exponent of Odissi an Indian Classical dance style. A captivating soloist, Mouli has performed at concerts in USA, India and Europe. Some of her recent performances include concerts at the prestigious Hopkins Center for Arts at Dartmouth College, Provincetown dance festival, Yuwa Bharati in the California Bay area, Musical Bridges Around the World in San Antonio, CID -UNESCO Conference in Florida, Circle of World Arts in Washington DC and Blip Collective in Austria. An emerging choreographer, Mouli was selected to attend the prestigious “New England Choreographer’s Retreat” at Jacob’s Pillow in 2017. 

 

Mouli is the founder and director of Upasana Odissi Inc. a Non-Profit organization for the promotion and preservation of Odissi.

Mouli has received several awards including grants from NEFA- New England Foundation for the Arts and Mass Cultural Council. She was awarded the " Padmavati Rasthriya Purashkar" by the National Culture Mission in India.
