Holi – The fun-filled festival of colors is a sure cure for the New England winter time blues. Jashn Event Planners had organized Holi Hungama - a celebration of the festival of Holi on Saturday March 6, 2004 in Billerica, MA. “We want to celebrate the onset of spring with a splash of color! This winter has been cold we wanted an event that could help shake of the winter blues” said Geeta Singhani, founder of Jashn Planners. Over 150 people attended the event. It began with the screening of various Holi scenes from Bollywood films. The entertainment for the afternoon was inaugurated with a short formal presentation by local artists. The dance floor was then opened and the catchy English, Hindi and Punjabi tunes had everyone dancing!

There were some fun games and contests for kids and adults. “I loved the Jelebi eating contest! I won! “ said Mansi Shinde, a high school student from Burlington. The limbo and dance contests were a hit!

The traditional “Gulal throwing” where the young and the old happily plastered each other with colored powder brought the celebration to a fun and colorful end. The celebration warmed the spirits and brought a little bit of India to New England.
