Russia continues to be the favourite destination to study medicine for Indian students, thanks to affordable fee structure and quality education. Around 1500 students have taken admission in various Russian colleges and universities to study medicine this year.

Roman Babushkin, charge d' affaires of the Russian Federation in India has termed students as their best assets. Babushkin was addressing an event held in Delhi recently.

"Thousands of Indian students have acquired higher educational qualification and achieved glory in their career. You are our best assets, and wish you a promising future," said he while addressing the SOBRANIYE-2019, the pre-departure ceremony for Indian students going to Russia to study medicine. He first greeted the audience in Hindi.

In his remarks, Fedor Rozovskiy, director, Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC), who initially spoke in Hindi, urged students to stay focused at studies and thank parents for choosing Russia as a study destination for their wards.

"Study well, uphold dignity and discipline, and bring proud to the country by serving humanity with dedication," said Admiral (Retd) Robin K Dhowan, former chief of Naval Staff who attended the event. He also urged them to be the best cultural ambassadors of the country.

Some of the students were also awarded scholarships for their excellence in performance and academic achievements. The scholarship comprised Ayushman Bharat Scholarship for excellence, Druzhba Scholarship in memory of former Russian Ambassador Alexander Kadakin, Veer Jawan Scholarship in memory of brave soldiers, Udaan Scholarship in memory of former Prime Minister AB Vajpayee, Badhte Kadam Scholarship in memory of former President APJ Abdul Kalam, Maiatreyi Scholarship in memory of former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj and Samarthya Scholarship in memory of the former finance minister Arun Jaitly, former Finance Minister.

Indian students and their parents were promised all possible timely help, assistance, support and guidance during their travel, secure and pleasant stay in Russia and studies in different universities there.

Air Marshal (Retd) Dr Pawan Kapoor, former Director-General, Medical Services, Indian Air Force; Dr Randeep Guleria, medical superintendent, AIIMS; Dr Shabnam Singh director, academics, Max Hospital; Lt Gen Bipin Puri, director-general, Armed Forces Medical Services and others attended the SOBRANIYE-2019.
