Nilanjana Rakhit and Ranen Chatterjee 08/21/2019 Haimanti Rakshit Das – a renowned singer from Bangladesh mesmerized the audience with her melodious voice on the evening of August 11, 2019 at McDevitt Middle School in Waltham, MA. Haimanti sang both Bengali and Hindi film songs including a few songs from her own album. Within two successive days on March 21-22, 2019, Haimanti received two National awards “Aamra Kunri Award†and “Sanko Telefilm Award†in Bangladesh. Haimanti had a very early start in singing and has many other prestigious awards to her credit for her outstanding performance and contributions to music including playback singing in Bangladeshi films and TV programs. Voice and Taal run in her family. Her father Manas Rakshit played tabla. Grand mother Chitra Rakshit was a renowned classical singer and when she was age 13, Columbia in Bombay released her long-playing record “Mirar Bhajanâ€.
