Haimanti Rakshit Das Mesmerizes The Audience

Haimanti Rakshit Das – a renowned singer from Bangladesh mesmerized the audience with her melodious voice on the evening of August 11, 2019 at McDevitt Middle School in Waltham, MA. Haimanti sang both Bengali and Hindi film songs including a few songs from her own album.

She delighted her audience with 9 Bengali songs ‘Ei shundar sharnali”, “Dekhini tomay”, “Sagorer tir theke”, “Ekla akaash”, “Kon she alor”, “Duti mon r”, “Tomar akash duti”, “Saat bhai champa”, and a Nazrul Geeti “Amar aponar cheye”.

Haimanti charmed her audience with 6 Hindi songs “Lag ja gale”, “Ek pyar ka nagma”, “Tujse naraj”, “Tumhi meri mandir’, “Bachpan ki mohabbat”, and “Oh lal meri”.

Haimanti was accompanied by her husband Ashim Das on Octapad, and our local talents Sagar Dey in Tabla and Jewel in synthesizer.

Within two successive days on March 21-22, 2019, Haimanti received two National awards “Aamra Kunri Award” and “Sanko Telefilm Award” in Bangladesh. Haimanti had a very early start in singing and has many other prestigious awards to her credit for her outstanding performance and contributions to music including playback singing in Bangladeshi films and TV programs.

Haimanti performed playback singing in Bangladeshi film “Sajghar”, “Moner Sathe Juddho”, “Shotru Shotru” and “Maatal”.  Her first album “Dakpion” released in 1994 when Haimanti was in her fifth grade. Since then she released numerous albums – “Mone Pore Tomake”(1998), “Premer Chonya”(2000), “Smritir Canvas”(2005), “Phire Dekha”(2008), duet album with Asif Akbar “Swapno Dekhi”(2010), “Prothom Prem”(2017) and “Deyal Kahini”(2018). In 2004, Haimanti stood first at a “Jatin-Lalit Talent Hunt” contest on Tara Bangla TV.

Voice and Taal run in her family.  Her father Manas Rakshit played tabla. Grand mother Chitra Rakshit was a renowned classical singer and when she was age 13, Columbia in Bombay released her long-playing record “Mirar Bhajan”.

Before coming to the U.S. this time on invitation by FOBANA 2019, Haimanti has performed in various shows in Bangladesh, India, Australia, Singapore, Netherlands, Lebanon and the U.S.
