Nazar Bollywood Dance Troupe Tryouts

Nazar is a dance company whose dance background include South Asian classical, folk, fusion, and western styles such as jazz, and contemporary.  Nazar performs at large events, community and corporate events, weddings, festivals, and more.

The goal of tryouts is to build our team and get some great new dance talent from the Boston community!  We plan to teach choreo and eventually have the team perform at our annual South Asian Showdown (1000 person attendance!), community events, and corporate events. We are the first independent Bollywood team of MA and we look forward to attracting great talent!

"Bollywood" is the popularly used term for the Hindi-language film industry based in Mumbai.  Over time, the vivid song and dance numbers from Hindi films gave rise to a new style of dance: a mixture of classical and folk dance styles from the Indian subcontinent, fused with western influences. 

Having some dance experience is great as we will incorporate different styles of dance into our choreography.  For tryouts, just come ready to dance!

Dates: August 7th and August 14th

Nazar is a dance company of women whose dance background include South Asian classical, folk, fusion, and western styles such as jazz, contemporary, and ballet.  Nazar performs at large events, community and corporate events, weddings, festivals, and more.  Each year, Nazar used to produce an independently choreographed showcase of 6 to 8 pieces that was very successful.  Currently, the focus is on our team and doing performances throughout New England!

Founded in the Spring of 2011, Nazar had its debut performance at India Day in August 2011.  Having derived our name from the Urdu word for “gaze of the eyes”, expression, passion, and energy form the bedrock of our dance philosophy.

Nazar is a sister dance organization to Boston Bhangra and exists under the umbrella of South Asian Nation (SAN).
