Chhandika Presents: Prakriti - Dances of Life

The members of the Chhandika Youth Ensemble would like to cordially invite you to our 2019 School Show! “A production such as this shows our hard work and dedication in pursuing the classical art form of kathak and presents our learning over the years. In addition, the collaboration of the kathak dancers and live musicians results in a stunning dance production.”-Mihika Shinde, Youth Ensemble Member, Age 16

Chhandika (Chhandam Institute of Kathak Dance) is a non-profit organization founded by Gretchen Hayden who is the senior most disciple of Pandit Chitresh Das. Chhandika provides a supportive and multicultural environment in which to explore the physical, intellectual, and spiritual benefits of Kathak dance.

The overall theme of Chhandika’s dynamic school show is the creation of life and the exploration of the different elements of nature. The show opens with Chhandika’s Youth Ensemble members performing a dramatic composition to represent Big Bang – the creation of the universe. The show weaves the exploration of the elements of nature – Earth, Wind, Fire, Water through Kathak dance and presents the whole production as one collaborative story.
