Sri Krishna Vaibhava – A Thematic Classical Music & Dance Show

Press Release
03/27/2019

Krishna, one of the most popular and powerful incarnations of Vishnu has influenced our thoughts, lives, and culture in myriad ways. The Supreme Lord Krishna is a name that resonates in every heart. His legends over the centuries have inspired creativity in various art forms and Indian classical music and dance forms take delight in depicting Krishna’s description and stories, producing many beautiful and aesthetic adaptations. And, what better way to worship the Lord than through songs, dances, and music, leading us on a path of bliss and spiritual progress! Sri Krishna Vaibhava, an evening of music and dance for the performing arts enthusiasts is scheduled on Saturday, May 11, 2019 as an endeavor to showcase our local talented team of musicians and dancers, while raising funds for a good cause.

Lord Krishna, one of the most revered deities in our culture, has so many famous temples or Kshetras dedicated to Him throughout India, where he is worshipped by millions of devotees. The Dance section of this event weaves through some of these famous Kshetras like Vrindavan in UP, Nathdwara in Rajasthan, Dwaraka in Gujarat, Pandharpur in Maharashtra, Udupi in Karnataka, Guruvayoor in Kerala, Srivilliputhur in Tamil Nadu, Puri Jagannath in Orissa and features dances in various classical styles that unfold Krishna’s life stories. The Music section of this event features thematic Carnatic and Hindustani compositions, instrumental ensemble, a Mother’s Day special and a Carnatic medley among others, that are presented by various music schools.

The event is organized by KalaTarangini, a non-profit organization based in Boston along with the support of several local teachers and organizations including NEKK. This is a fundraiser to benefit ‘Ashraya’, a retirement home for the aged in Mumbai, managed by a 90 years old institution, popularly known as GOKUL. It has established itself as one of the most prestigious and progressive cultural and social organizations in Mumbai.

Ashraya, a home for senior citizens founded in 2008 with the aim of providing a facility for the aged is open to anyone over 60 years of age at subsidized rates. Equipped with modern amenities, it currently has 26 self-contained rooms housing 40 residents, a medical center, well stocked library, banking facilities and much more. The goal of Ashraya is to provide the aged an atmosphere where the elderly can lead a life of self-respect, dignity and confidence that comes from being independent. Today, there is a compelling need for more state-of-the-art senior homes like Ashraya. Vision 2020 by Ashraya’s parent organization GOKUL aims to meet this growing need and is planning a two-fold expansion to increase its accommodation by 100%. This fundraiser event presented by our community members aims to benefit GOKUL in its initiative with all your kind support and encouragement.

Sri Krishna Vaibhava is part of a two-event fundraiser (the other event being Raj Vaibhava on Sunday, June 16, 2019).  For ticket options, please click the following link: https://tinyurl.com/GokulRajTkts.
