'Raat Ka Nashaa', Utsav's first semi formal event took place on Friday, February 13, 2004 at the Hyatt Hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Utsav, the Northeastern University Undergraduate South Asian Student Organization, now in its 12th year, strived to bring this event to the South Asian community this year for many reasons.

The idea of an Intercollegiate South Asian semi formal was brought upon by the members of Utsav in order to gather South Asian members from the schools of Boston and surrounding areas and allow them to collaborate on a fun filled formal event with music and dining. The 2003 - 2004 Utsav Executive Board tried making this event possible, in hopes that students from schools all around the Boston area would enjoy a formal evening of dancing, dining, and unity of South Asian students.

The 'Raat Ka Nashaa' event drew in a crowd of over 100 guests all from surrounding Boston area Schools [Northeastern University, Boston University, Bentley, Harvard, Tufts, MIT, University of Massachusetts Boston, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, and Wentworth Institute of Technology]. The night was gleaming with the wonderful sounds of DJ Pup Dawg from Boston's 94.5FM radio station and the surprise of the night, the sound of a dhol (traditional Punjabi drum) to the Indian beats of Bhangra by Bentley University's Adham Chaudary.

Utsav hopes to continue 'Raat Ka Nashaa; as an annual intercollegiate semi formal event. It is a rare occasion where students from a great city like Boston are able to meet one another from their community and share an event such like this one.
