Daal-Chawal is the best food to have!

All this while we had been going gaga over pizzas and burgers as the biggest comfort food that we Indians could have ever asked for! Ironically, on the other hand, the world is busy exploring our very own ‘Daal-chawal’ as the ‘Wonder Diet’. Surprised! Well, that’s true and it has been recently brought to attention when a news agency revealed a report that suggests lentils with a side of rice is the diet that can save the world from the global food crisis.

According to the report, in order to reduce the global burden of feeding three billion people on Earth, the dining table in 2050 should look something like this - 'porridge for breakfast, rice for lunch, a dinner of lentils and vegetables, and a single hamburger every few weeks, as a treat.'

According to health experts, daal-chawal as a combo is known to be effective in weight loss program. It is recommended to consume daal-chawal as dinner for a minimum of four days every week to keep the weight of an average adult balanced. But you must control portion size!

Not only from the global food crisis perspective, even the health experts feel that daal-chawal is the best thing to have in every meal. On one hand, daal contains essential fibre, proteins, vitamins, calcium and carbs, while on the other, rice is gut-friendly and low-carb food that only increases the satiation level of the body.

Daal cooked with green vegetables and unpolished rice makes for a complete meal. It is a perfect balance of vitamins, carbs, protein and minerals. This food should be an essential part of your daily diet.

This report is a sign that we Indians need to understand the value of our traditional food and their nutritional value. We hope that the alarm of global food crisis will help us in valuing the importance of daal-chawal.
