Son Of Illustrious Ustad Sabri Khan Offers Enchanting Sarangi Concert

Press Release
10/25/2018

Sarangi Maestro Kamal Sabri, the seventh generation of a distinguished family of traditional musicians, will offer a concert on Saturday, October 27th at 7:30 pm with tickets available from Learnquest Academy of Music.

Kamal was initiated and trained by his father from the tender age of 5 in the style of the venerable Senia Gharana of Rampur, Moradabad, with a musical lineage dating back to Tansen. He soon burst onto the music scene as a child prodigy, later gaining immense popularity among eminent classical vocalists for his musical brilliance and talent as a seasoned accompanist.

Kamal has performed at prestigious music festivals both in India and abroad. In India, he has performed multiple times at the Harballah Music Festival and Saptak Festival Ahmedabad, plus the World Peace Concert in Delhi and the Sangeet Natak Academy Golden Jubilee Festival Hyderabad. He has represented India in many international festivals throughout Europe and the United Kingdom.

The national radios of the UK, France, Switzerland, Finland, Norway, Italy and Pakistan have invited him to perform. He has also been invited to compose scores for Hollywood and Bollywood films and a documentary about Mother Teresa. While retaining the purity of Indian classical music, Kamal Sabri expands his musical talent through vast realms of the music world by playing fusion music with classical orchestras and popular musicians.

Kamal will be accompanied by Nitin Mitta, one of the most accomplished and distinguished tabla players of his generation, with a reputation for technical virtuosity, spontaneity, clarity of tone and sensitivity to melodic nuances. He has performed with some of India’s most celebrated Hindustani classical musicians as well as contemporary jazz musicians. Nitin was trained by two disciples of the late Ustad Amir Hussain Khan Saheb of the Farrukhabad Gharana, one of the great tabla players of our time. Nitin is a faculty member of Learnquest Academy of Music, sponsor of the concert.

The venue is Harvard-Epworth Church at 1555 Mass. Ave. (two blocks from Harvard Square, next to Harvard Law School) on Saturday, October 27, at 7:30 pm.
