Chinmaya Ashram Successfully Concludes Their 2nd Annual Health Fair And Medical Camp

Chinmaya Saraswati Ashram at 393 Derby Avenue, Orange, CT successfully hosted their 2nd Annual Health Fair and Medical Camp on September 9 from 10 AM-1 PM. The 15 physicians and 1 dentist who volunteered their services were members of the CT Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (CAPI). Besides physicians in internal medicine, there were specialists in Anesthesiology, Bariatrics, Cardiology, Gynecology, Oncology, Ophthalmology and Psychiatry. Around 50 patients were screened for Blood Pressure, Body Mass Index, Blood Glucose, and counseled by physicians and specialists. Dentist Dr. Ratna Vemulapalli provided dental screenings and Fluoride Treatments. The National Bone Marrow Registry had a table for its, “Be The Match” bone marrow drive to increase the numbers of Asian Indians in its registry.

From 12 to 1 PM specialists in the following fields gave inspiring medical talks: Dr. Madhavi Gorusu (President of CAPI, Vice President of Starling Physicians) on Early Detection of Cancer; Dr. Sekhar Chirunomula (past President of CAPI) on Family Medicine; Dr. Sandeep Johar on Ophthalmology; Dr.Kunal Domakonda on Cardiology; Dr. Nikilesh Sekhar on Bariatrics; and Dr. Sujata Prasad on Internal Medicine.  Physicians were welcomed with flowers and treated to a delicious sit-down Indian lunch after the event by Ashram volunteers. Chinmaya Mission members and young volunteers helped with patient registration and triage making this a wonderful service to the community.
