Statement and Invitation to Vote for Newsletter/Mailing:

It is important that Indian American families see people who look like them at the highest levels of our government and know their interests are being looked after. I’m Beej Das and I hope to be the first Indian American in the United States Congress from the entire East Coast. My life experiences include being a high-tech innovator, a constitutional lawyer and a small business owner.

Massachusetts and India shares a unique heritage. Just a few years after the American colonies gained their independence, the first merchant ship left for India returning home with textiles, cotton and spices— the beginning of a commercial trade that helped to fueled America’s earliest industries, of which the mills of Lowell attest to.

However, more than goods and products were exchanged. Throughout the decades to follow, Indian philosophies and cultural forms were introduced to New Englanders, encouraging an intellectual movement and a Gilded Age “American Renaissance”. As Indian Americans, we have much to be proud of as active and successful participants in America’s dynamic society. However, we continue to lag compared to other minority communities in our access to and participation in America’s political system. I ask you to support my campaign for Congress to build on the gains we must make to ensure our political power as a community matches our economic strength.

You could support my candidacy because you believe that diverse representation matters. But I hope you also do because you believe I am the right person to represent your interests and those of the district. I am a candidate that cares, that aims to represent all constituents and build bridges. I truly believe that if we come together, unite instead of divide, strive for common ground, we can achieve big things as a community and as a nation.

My top priority because of its enormous personal and economic consequences is healthcare. I support providing affordable healthcare by making Medicare available to all and I will stand up to prescription drug companies to reduce drug prices. We must improve healthcare for older Americans by making in-home care expenses tax deductible for low and middle-income families, and reduce the enormous burden of healthcare costs and regulations affecting our businesses. Please see the rest of my platform at DasforCongress.com/acttogether.

There are 11.000 Indian American voters in this district. The primary election is approaching soon -- this Tuesday, September 4, 2018. I humbly ask for your support and vote. Even beyond your vote, your help in spreading my message to your friends and family in the district will be critical to our success.
