Summer camps at Academy of Creative Arts

Art summer camp

It’s not too late to sign your child up for a summer arts and crafts camp! Activities include crafting, painting, sculpting, drawing, designing, and decorating.

Come join us at the Academy of Creative Arts for a fun-filled summer! Our current summer camp program is for any child who enjoys crafting, painting, and creating fun projects to take home.

We celebrate arts and creativity in a fun manner. Our goal is to create a fun-filled atmosphere to foster knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts through hands-on activities.

Students will explore a variety of mediums and forms, such as drawing, painting, printmaking, crafts, creating, designing, decorating including three-dimensional aspects under the guidance of our qualified and fun-loving instructors. Since projects vary each week, kids may register for as many weeks of camp as they wish.

Students are split into two age groups, 5-9 and 9-13, to ensure that each child will be comfortable with others in their age group.

Sessions include a half-day option or the full day (9AM-3PM), and you can choose to sign up for just a single day or all five days. Sign-ups are on a weekly basis, and extended day care is available after 3PM as well. Check out our website at http://academyofcreativearts.com/summer-program-2018/ for more information on this camp!

Theatre and acting camp

Step into the spotlight and come shine on stage during our one-week play production workshops!

What better way to combat the summer slump than get your imagination and creativity back into full throttle? At the Academy of Creative Arts, children are given the amazing opportunity to tap into their acting skills and put on a theatrical production for friends and family. Young actors of all skill levels aged 8-14 are welcome to sign up for the one-week theatre workshop from August 6th - 10th.

The acting and theatre program at ACA is the ultimate arts experience, guiding students from rehearsal to performance. During the week, students will have a blast learning new acting techniques, building self confidence and having fun. They collaborate with others not only through rehearsals, but also through the process of preparing stage materials and props together. As they make new friends, children also learn the importance of teamwork.. Every student is encouraged to explore their potential in a safe, encouraging environment, and individual attention is given to each child as they embark on their theatrical journey. On the Friday of each week, students present the culmination of their hard work to friends, family, and the general public.

The camp takes place from 9AM-6PM, although early drop-off is available from 8AM and extended day care continues until 6PM for parents with busy schedules. We ask that students bring their own lunch and snack for each day.

In addition to cultivating social skills overall, participation in theatre activities has been shown to boost students' confidence, leading to a greater potential of academic achievement. The act of performing can help students and youth recognize their abilities while also heightening memorization and public speaking skills. Time and time again, studies have demonstrated a correlation between drama involvement and higher standardized test scores, and overcoming performance anxiety is most effective at a young age. Children will enjoy the unique experience while all aspects of their mind and body are utilized in a creative and challenging way. Make sure to sign up soon, as spots are limited! More details about the program and sign-up information can be found at http://academyofcreativearts.com/#/theatre-acting-program/.

Java Programming camp

The Academy of Creative Arts is running an Introduction to Programming with Java summer camp this August! The program is two weeks and takes place from August 6-10 and August 13-17. The camp is designed for students going into grades 8-12, and will serve as a great foundation for those who plan to take programming or computer science classes in their high school careers. No prior programming experience is required, so don’t hesitate to sign up for this opportunity to sharpen your technical skills!

Students will receive an introduction to computer programming using Java and Eclipse IDE. Throughout the camp, they will be taught how to employ logical thinking and will get familiar with algorithmic development and object oriented structures. Using trial and error, students will debug lines of code and see more general applications that programming can be used for, such as video games and websites. Learning about basic programming and its potential uses is a great starting point for students to begin thinking about their future professions. In also offers the acquisition of an important and in-demand skill in this age.

Our instructor, Neeta Kalve, has over 15 years of experience in software development, specifically in the healthcare and education sector. She holds a Masters degree in Computer Science and Engineering, making her the ideal teacher to guide young programmers through the beginnings of their coding journeys. Furthermore, she has taught web development and programming classes to help students uncover their potential.

The camp runs from 9AM to 1PM, Monday through Friday. Students only need to bring their own laptop and a positive attitude each day! Sign-up information is available at http://academyofcreativearts.com/java/.
