Uma Nallaiappan received her PhD in Tamil Literature from the Madras University in the year 1990 with the thesis entitled   "ANIMALS IN KAMBAARAMAYANAM."  She taught at Madras University before leaving for the US.  She started Tamil language classes in Shishu Bharati school in 1995.  Known as a caring teacher, she engages kids in New England Tamil Sangam programs to help them learn Tamil language and culture.
