Kathir Meyyappan: Teaching Math To Eradicate Illiteracy

03/02/2018

Ekal Youth Leader Kathir Meyyappan looks like an ordinary 8th grader. However in that petite frame is hidden a little professor of Mathematics. The talented Kathir decided to share his passion for math and run a math camp. The payment for the camp was used to raise $5000 to provide Lifetime support for an Ekal school.  Working diligently for a few months he achieved his target!

“Greetings! My name is Kathir Meyyappan.  I am in 8th grade. I have had a fondness for Math for quite a while.  I want to use my interest and passion for supporting the effort of bringing basic education to every child across rural India and help eradicate illiteracy from rural and tribal India by Ekal Vidyalaya organization. After deciding to share my knowledge with younger children, I thought about a 4 week Math Workshop to start spread the intriguing art of problem solving.” said Kathir.

Why did he want to do this Math Workshop?

“I want to use my interest and passion in Math by conducting a Math workshop and use ALL the money I raise through this Math Workshop[s] and beyond in "Adopting a School for Life time" in rural India and help eradicate illiteracy from rural and tribal India through Ekal Vidyalaya organization.”

His classes were thorough and succeeded in engaging the youngsters. Teaching requires a high level of commitment and Kathir showed his passion and commitment in each class. Ekal is truly blessed to have a youth leader like Kathir Meyyappan.
