Dancing For Shiva

Ranjani Saigal
02/23/2018

“Nrityanjali” or prayer through dance has become a key function at many of the temples in the Boston area. The New England Shirdi Sai Temple organized a day long Nritya and Gananjali – a prayer through song and dance on Feb 17 2018. The event featured students from several music and dance schools in the area.

The event opened with a formal prayer by Priest Nagendra ji.  Students of Smt Soumya Rajaram, Swathi Atluri, Dhanashree Karmarkar, Archana Agarwal, Subathira Janarthanan, Jeyanthi Ghatraju, Padma Shine, Pallavi Nagesha, Aparna Chambravalli, Nina Gulhati, Neha Parikh, Sujatha Meyyappan, Randell D’Souza, Sonali Bhargava, Jothi Raghavan, Preeti Ramesh, Anu Suren and Ranjani Saigal presented a variety of pieces in Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Contemporary style.

Students of Valli Amaravadi, Priya Anand and Bhuvana Ganesh presented a variety of devotional pieces.  Of note was a young 5 year old who came up impromptu and recited the Shiva Panchaksharam perfectly!

It was wonderful to see two young men provide beautiful accompaniment on the Mridangam to the musical items. One is the student of Shri Gaurishankar and the other a student of Rohan Krishnamurthy.

It was wonderful to see the passion and the commitment of so many young children to the arts . Lord Nataraja surely was pleased.

The temple is coming up on its last lap of fundraising for the 10 million dollars. To learn more about the fundraising opportunities, please check out their website at http://nessp.org
