Have you always wanted to create your own mobile application but dreaded programming? Are you a non-tech person who wants to keep up with technological advancements? Or do you just want to impress your friends?

Well if you answered yes to any of these questions or consider yourself to be “in the zone”, the Mobile App Building Workshop is for you! This event will be held on December 9th at Tufts University’s Medford Campus and will run from 10 am to 5 pm. It is open to ages 8+ and no prior coding experience is needed. All proceeds will benefit Ekal Vidyalaya, to bring education to children in rural India.

In the morning, participants will learn how to use ‘Thunkable’, a mobile app building tool. Later in the afternoon, they will brainstorm their ideas in small teams and compete against fellow participants. Earlier events held at Boston University and Bedford, NH were a huge success. In the past, we have seen kids come up with very creative ideas; they also learn to work in a team and formally present their application. The workshop provides good exposure and hands-on experience using various features of Thunkable.

Ekal Youth Leaders are running the Ekal Appathon for the third time.The workshop and competition will be conducted by EYLs: Shanmukha Srinivasan, Neeharika Munjal, Satwik Misra and Sriganesh Srinivasan. The competition will be judged by experts from the industry and college professors.

This is a great opportunity for kids and adults alike to build mobile applications in one day. The tech-savvy Ekal Youth Leaders put forth a great model with ‘kids helping kids’. While we enjoy use of technology along with higher education, we can bring hope to children in rural India and help them start with basic education!
