Harvard Tamil Chair New England - Fundraiser Comedy Play With Y Gee Mahendran & Team

Bamiela Venkat
11/22/2017

November 17th,  being a friday did not stop the energetic crowd to come, attend and cheer for the fabulous comedy play "Kaasedhaan Kadavuladaa" by Thiru.Y.G.Mahendra and Chicago Triveni Team.  St. John's High School was over packed by the audience who enthralled to see the comedy hit tamil play which was a hit tamil movie back then in 1970's, basically adapted from the play.

Maximum Media with YGM has agreed to do this play for FREE as a fundraiser for Harvard Tamil Chair - New England. The event started with the Tamil Thai Vazhthu followed by the HTC introduction by Ramesh Kumar.  YGM Team was welcomed and introduced by Bamiela Venkat.

The play went for an hour with no intermission. Karthikeyan Ramu, introduced Viswajith as the speaker of the day. Viswajith gave an excellent speech  about Tamil and how the language influenced him, although he is born and brought up in USA. Followed by his powerful speech, Mrs. Ranjani Saigal, Executive Director of Ekal Vidyalaya cheered the crowd and started the fundraiser. She was joined by Mathangi Sekar, Bamiela Venkat and Odi Odayappan to propagate the goodness of having a chair at our prestigious university - Harvard.
Rhode Island Tamil Sangam had the concept of kids portrayed as Ovvaiyaar, Thiruvalluvar and Bharathiyaar. Kids did an amazing role in influencing the crowd to give more fund for Harvard Tamil Chair.

The Gold Sponsor of the event was Sumathi Narayanan Realty and the Food Co-Sponsor of the event was Dharani Restaurant, Woburn. New York Life Insurance was the Silver Sponsor for the event.
SVTM Jewellery was kind enough to donate 10 silver coins for the Vallal (sponsors) on event day. What an auspicious way to get Silver on a Friday Evening?. 10 Families received the coins for their valuable donation.

The play continued for another hour and 15 minutes. Audience was thoroughly enjoying the entire play. Y.Gee's trend jokes and catchy dialogues confirms that it takes years for one to gain mastery on a stage drama. It is very important to have timely sense of humor to make the comedy drama a real hit. There is a lot of toil and hard work which goes in to their practices. Triveni Team from Chicago (been here in Boston many times) did a marvellous job and needless to say there was standing ovation at the end.

Vote of Thanks was rendered by CT Narayanan and Srini Narayanan. Odi Odaiyappan presented the ponnadai to Thiru. Y.Gee Mahendra. He was handed the plaque followed by the keepsake trophies for the team. There were remembrance from most of the people from the audience about his previous shows in Boston for Venkata 3 and Kadhalikka Neramundu by New England Tamil Sangam (NETS). No event goes without taking pictures, we too had the slot for pictures at the end of the drama. Everyone took their pictures.

Thanks to all Tamil Organisations, Associations who had combinedly joined for bringing Harvard Tamil Chair to the prestigious Harvard. We have collected $9,000 from YGM Event.

End of the day, all hard work and credit goes to the organisers and volunteers who worked tirelessly for this great event to be a successful one. We will make the harvard dream a true reality by next year. We are looking forward to see you in our grand event next year for the proud Harvard Tamil Chair.
