The Churchgate station has always been a landmark for the city of Mumbai, and now it will be one for the rest of the world as well. Made by the legendary artist Eduardo Kobra as a continuation of his global project 'Olhares da Paz' ('Faces of peace’), he hopes the mural will convey a message of peace and harmony and encourage people to imbibe the values the Mahatma stood for - a person the entire world, and now every passersby at Churchgate station can look up to.

Churchgate being the first station of the Western Railway's suburban line is an extremely iconic one. Kobra has painted a beautiful picture of Mahatma Gandhi getting down from a train, an adaption of a photograph taken in the early 1940s’ by Kulwant Roy owned by Aditya Arya Archive and India Photo Archive Foundation and is symbolic of the impact that Gandhi ji and the railways have had on India's Independence.
