Gurjar Diwali Grand Gala was celebrated with much aplomb on Sunday 29th October at the Boxboro Regency Hotel.

Gurjar celebrated the 40th anniversary in style with this signature event, the turnout was very heartwarming, despite the stormy weather, and more than 350 people enjoyed the formal dinner.  Men and women dressed to the nine, enjoyed the scrumptious food prepared by BAPS, the social hour in the grand atrium was packed with people’s laugher and joy.

Gurjar recognized two very special people, for their contribution to health, humanity and philanthropic causes.  Prarthna Desai of Weston was recognized for her huge contribution to health and humanitarian causes globally, especially Rwanda her last project, where she had organized to use drones to drop general and medical supplies in the remote villages.

The other person recognized was Rakesh Kamdar from Andover, for his unwavering support to Gurjar and various philanthropic and charitable causes.

The evening also saw some powerful entertainment by a group from India called, Bollywood Dhamaka with the lead singers, Sonny and Daxa Solanki.

The surprise artist for the night was the famous Rex D’Souza, the name spells talent,  energy and a Never-Say-Never attitude for all those who watched Fame Gurukul, the Indian reality show where he made it to the top. Rex and Sonny rocked the dance floor, leaving guests wanting for more.  The bad weather was no hindrance to the guest who could have stayed all night singing along and dancing with the troop.

Our popular Navratri and Diwali programs are greatly supported by the community, we see familiar faces year after year.  Our sponsors have stood by us for past many years; our life membership is also on the rise.

Gurjar raises the bar every year, added attraction, this year was, after a hiatus of 12 years the ever so popular Diwali magazine was back on the table,  along with a token gift, called Laani (gifts exchanged during festivals in Gujarat).  The beautiful Rangoli’s, the center pieces on the tables were raffled off to the delight of the winners.

Happy Diwali and Saal Mubarak, and we welcome you all to join us next year.
