Ekal Navratri

On Saturday, October 14th, Indians from all over New England will have the opportunity to celebrate the beloved traditions of Navaratri both the Boston way and the Indian way at Ekal Vidyalaya’s Navaratri celebration! Offering diverse entertainment for kids as well as adults, this event, sponsored by Shree Sai Vogue, is sure to have something for everyone. The event will take place from 6:30 to 9:30 at the First Congregational Church, 18 Andover Road, Billerica, MA. Dress up in your best and be prepared to have the time of your life!

The event will start off with an energetic, multi-lingual opening song about Navaratri and its traditions both in India and the U.S. as well as a short kirtanam by Sudha Subbaraman. Ekal Vidyalaya’s Youth Leaders will then present their contributions in the form of a youth dance choreography by Neha Vijay and a short presentation on interning at Ekal Vidyalaya by Nandini Seetharaman. You will also hear about Ekal Vidyalaya’s upcoming projects.

For the women, there will be a choreographed demonstration of Kolattam, a South Indian version of Garba that has faded over the years but is now picking up with more vigor than ever. For those who want to try their hand at Kolattam, there will be an opportunity to dance a few simple moves with others. No need to bring anything; dandiya sticks will be provided, so just be prepared to shed your inhibitions and dance!

For kids, there is a friendly Golu competition in which they can choose a doll or figurine from home, research about it, and share a short description about its history and meaning. This will help them to understand the significance behind the figures in our Golu’s, and they can engage in the spirit of competition as well! Here is the link to register for the Golu competition: https://goo.gl/forms/KHnPTChO8MjzhwQH3

There will be food available for purchase, as well as sweets, diyas, and other goodies in anticipation of Diwali. Shree Sai Vogue will also have dresses on display for shopping lovers. There is still time to register.
