New Classes OPEN HOUSE at the Center for Arts and Wellness

This fall at The Center for Arts and Wellness in Westborough several new incredibly talented, well-trained and reputed faculty specializing in the fields of music, dance and creative education will be offering activities for children to help enrich their creative side as well as foster curiosity and learning. The Center, is the brainchild of two local teachers each specializing in a different art form in the Metrowest area. Hema Iyengar and Vandana Rao came together with a unique vision to offer the diaspora a myriad of avenues for artistic expression, education, and healing.  Since they opened their doors last October, they have grown to now offer over 15 different classes in streams such as Music, Dance, Fine Arts, Fitness and Wellness, and Creative Education.

 

On the auspicious day of Vijayadashami - this Saturday, September 30 the Center will be hosting an OPEN HOUSE showcasing their new offerings:

-          Carnatic Vocal Music: 1:00 – 3:00 pm
Starting up soon at the Center under the keen tutelage of Smt. Valli Amaravadi, their new Carnatic Vocal teacher, and well-known local musician and vocalist!
Come, chat with her and get an initial assessment of level.

-          Speech and Debate Club: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Meet the instructor, well-known local Public Speaking guru – Mr. Paresh Motiwala, and some of his current students who have benefited tremendously from his classes. Mr. Motiwala has trained over 300 students in the last 5 years alone!

 

-          Fitness Physics: 2:30 - 4:00 pm

Curious about what Fitness has to do with Physics? Find out about how kids can learn physics concepts through Fitness routines from physical trainer and scientist Mr. Claudio Xavier!

 

-          “Let’s Nacho” Bollywood Dance: 4:00 – 5:00 pm
Do a trial 30-minute class and meet their new Bollywood dance “Let’s Nacho’ class teacher, professional dancer and competitor Pooja Ravi. Pooja conducted the Center’s first BollyTwist night which was a rousing success; videos of the dancing from that event can also be found on their facebook page.

 

 

Other new classes offered at the Center this Fall: is a Ghazal and Light Hindustani Classical music (Sugam Sangeet) class by reputed ghazal exponent Shri M. Rama Rao. Shri Rama Rao recently performed at the Center as part of their Raga-Rhythm Performance Series, where he sang ghazals of Mehdi Hassan, Jagjit Singh, Pankaj Udas, and some of his own compositions. Recordings of his renditions can be found on the Center’s facebook page. 

 

The Center is also focusing on enhancing their percussion offerings by starting Mridangam classes with young and upcoming musician and accompanist Shri Vijay Srinivasachari, and Tabla, Dhol and Dholak classes with Shri Abhilash Mehta, a professional musician and teacher with several decades of experience.

-          Catwalk and Bollywood Salsa Workshops on Sunday October 1 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and 12:00 – 3:00 pm. To register click here.

-          Festival Mela: On the occasion of Karva Chauth and Diwali, join us for Mehndi application and a sale of clothes and jewelry by many local small businesses on Saturday, October 7 from 4:00 pm onwards. Mehndi session is also being offered on Friday October, 6 from 5:30 pm onwards. Sign up here!

-          Raga-Rhythm Performance Series: Concert by Shri Ramchandra Joshi presenting a Bhajan Sandhya on Saturday, October 28 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm.

-          Kathak Workshop with Shambhavi Dandekar on November 17 and 18, in collaboration with the Shadaj ‘Strings n Beats’ concert.
