Dhanashree Ramachandran 06/15/2017 The word “yoga†means union in Sanskrit. A regular practice of yoga allows practitioners to experience the union of body and mind, the small mind and the big mind, the inner self and the outer manifestation. The International Day of Yoga takes the idea of union to a whole different level by uniting countries and identities, breaking all boundaries. In December 2014, Mr. Naredra Modi, the Prime Minister of India presented the resolution for the celebration to the UNGA with a vision to share the gift of yoga with the whole humanity. 175 other countries joined hands to co-sponsor the resolution, making it the first resolution of its kind with the largest number of co-sponsors. The UN announced June 21st, the day of Summer solstice as the International Day of Yoga. Today millions around the world celebrate the International Day of Yoga. This year the theme of the celebration is “yoga for healthâ€. Massachusetts has a dynamic community of yogis from all traditions. This year the International Day of Yoga celebrations exhibit the same dynamism with events at four locations- Boston, Burlington, Acton and Chelmsford. All four are unique in their own way. All events are free and open to all. The IDY organizing committee invites you to be a part of the celebration and the ever-growing yoga community. Here are the details: 1.
