Four Free Lecture Demonstrations To Kick Off 12th Annual Learnquest Music Festival

Four free lecture demonstrations will kick off the 2017 LearnQuest Music Conference.  On Friday, April 7th at 7PM a ‘Saxophone Jugalbandi’ between Hindustani artist Phil Scarff and Carnatic artist Sumanth Swaminathan with  Gaurishankar Chandrasekhar on the Mridangam and Amit Kavthekar will take place at 125 Prospect Street, Framingham, MA.

On Tuesday, April 11th between 1PM and 3PM  at Berklee College of Music’s David Friend

Recital Hall, renowned Santoor artist  Pandit. Satish Vyas will give a lecture-demonstration on the Santoor accompanied by Amit Kavthekar  on the Tabla.

On Wednesday, April 12th at 7PM at the Academy of Creative Arts located at 12 A Street, Burlington, MA 01803 Burlington, musician-cum-scholar Dr. Subhadra Desai will present a lecture-demonstration on ‘The Enticing World of Taraana’.  She will be accompanied by Rajesh Pai on the tabla and Ravi Torvi on the harmonium.

On Thursday, April 13th at 7PM also at the Academy of Creative Arts there will be a lecture-demonstration by the master Harmonium player Ravindra Katoti on the harmonium instrument. The title of the presentation will be ‘Journey of Harmonium’. Pandit Katoti will be accompanied by Rajesh Pai on the tabla.

The main Learnquest music festival will begin at 6pm on Friday April 14 with a children’s chorus presented by Hindustani vocal students of Dr. Pradeep Shukla and Smt. Shuchita Rao. Music performances by top-notch musicians from India will follow on the next two days. A film on the Gwalior Gharana and a special tribute presentation to the legendary Hindustani vocalist the late Padmavibhushan Smt. Kishori Amonkar  will also  be presented at this year’s festival which will conclude on Sunday April 16 with a World CrashArts concert featuring the talented artist Santoor artist Rahul Sharma and tabla legend Ustad Zakir Hussain.
