UIANE Celebrates Holi

On March 19, 2017 over 200 people came to the UIANE Holi event at Ambrosia facility in Foxboro. The event started with a social hour with serving of delicious appetizers including aloo tikki chole,mixed pakora and chicken. 

Holi is a time when communities come together after the winter to welcome the spring harvest.It is a wonderful feeling that we can maintain our culture in this great nation which welcomes and embraces diversity, said Dr. Neela Gandhi, President of UIANE. Dr. Gandhi also thanked all those who came and her committee for their support with the event.

The cultural program choreographed by Anandini Sekhar included a Bharatnatyam dance on Brindavana Ka Krishna Kanhaiya(This popular light song from the movie Miss Mary describes how Lord Shri Krishna is the darling of Brindavan and asks why Radha is jealous when he is the beloved of everyone. This item has been choreographed in Bharatanatyam by Guru Srimati Sudha Chandra Sekhar and taught by Anandini Sekhar. The participants are Maya Soto, Asha Banerji, Reeya Wadhwani and Jaya DeLong).The second performance was a Garba dance on Holi Range Ude Re Gulal (This traditional garba is set to a beautiful Holi-themed song by Suman Kalyanpur. The participants are Aadya Gurjar, Asha Banerji, Reeya Wadhwani, Shefali Bakre, Aanika Seth Mohta, Sumaedha Konduri, Nikhitha Biju and Maya Soto. The emcee of the program was Vice President Rakashi Chand.

The dance floor opened to rocking music by DJ Tej Singh who kept everyone on the dance floor with non-stop dancing and some singing while lunch was being served.


There were several craft activities prepared by committee member Neeta Datta and kept the children busy while the families enjoyed the event.

A delicious lunch consisting of chicken tikka masala, paneer,dal makhini,naan,jeera rice,mixed salad, gulab jaman and thandai was then served.

There were several raffle prizes that were won including gift cards to Wegmans, Target, and Olive and Mint.

The highlight of the event was playing of the dry colors outdoors and all danced to the holi music played by DJ Tej while playing with the dry colors.

One of UIANE’s goal is to serve the community by bringing people together and celebrate these events in a traditional way to maintain our culture and pass it on to our future generation.
