SETU to present Vijay Tendulkar’s original play “Kamala”

SETU (Stage Ensemble Theatre Unit) will present KAMALA, an original play in the English language, written by Vijay Tendulkar. Directed by Subrata Das, the play brings to the fore, the slave trade and male chauvinism issues in India. Exposing the issue of flesh trade and its consequences, the story revolves around a young journalist, Jaisingh Jadhav, who brings home a young woman named Kamala from the flesh market. In a press conference, he exposes the sex crimes committed against helpless village women. His wife, Sarita, finds this to be a strange investigation considering that she herself is feeling oppressed living with a chauvinistic husband. Her transformation from a naïve, domesticated housewife to a mature woman who wakes up to her challenges is the highlight of the play Kamala.

SETU, whose mission is to build bridges between Indian and Western cultures through the medium of theater, has a long history of successful productions presented in the Boston area with Ramayan, Mahabharata, Shah Jahan and Once Upon a Time Not in Bollywood being the latest ones receiving critical acclaim. The play Kamala will be staged in an intimate theatre setting at The Dorothy and Charles Mosesian Center for the Arts located at 321, Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA

FOur shows are being presented on Fri 3/31 7pm, Sat 4/1 2pm and 7 pm, Sun 4/2 2 pm. Purchase tickets at www.setu.us.
