03/09/2017

The Vijaya Durga Kali Temple held a grand Mahashivatri celebration including a beautiful enactment of the wedding of Lord Shiva and Ma Durga.  The wedding lasted upto 3:00 am with a cultural event following the wedding.

The two day Pooja started on Friday Feb 24 and ended on Saturday Feb 25.  There are many tales that are associated with Mahashivarathri.  The legend of marriage of Shiva and Shakti is one the most important legends related to the festival of Mahashivaratri. The story tells us how Lord Shiva got married a second time to Shakti, his divine consort. According to legend of Shiva and Shakti, the day Lord Shiva got married to Parvati is celebrated as Shivaratri - the Night of Lord Shiva.
The penance of Goddess Parvati to win over Lord Shiva inspired many a young women to fast on Shivaratri day.

At the Kali temple, Priest Bhavani Tejas performed the wedding of Lord of Shiva and Parvathi including all the rituals like the tying of the Mangal Sutra, Sapta Padi etc.  It was a beautiful ceremony. The night ended with a dancing by Ranjani Saigal and the priest Bhavani Tejas.

The following day LIngodbhava Kaal Puja , Nakuleshwar Puja etc was done as the final part of the Shivarathri celebrations.

With his inner power Bhavani Tejas was able to bring the Divine Energies to the temple. It was a true delight to be part of the celebrations.
