Bollywood Star Jaaved Jaaferi - Special Guest At AIF Gala

Jaaved Jaaferi or “JJ” as he is known among friends; is a multifaceted creative and production talent, known for donning various hats with flamboyance: actor, producer, dancer, singer, choreographer, VJ, MC, ad filmmaker among others. 

Carrying on the lineage of India’s most popular and legendary actor/comedian, Jagdeep, Jaaved burst on the Indian cinema screens in 1985. The film titled “Meri Jung”  had him in a negative role which turned iconic overnight. His dance performance  in the song ‘Bol Baby Bol Rock & Roll’ incorporated a path breaking style showcasing his dancing excellence.

He has been a part of the choreography for most of his dance performances on film and stage.

For him and his fans, the trend of cinematic excellence has continued over 55 films, Indian and international, till date; motivating a generation of dance aficionados and winning various awards in India and overseas.

The launch of satellite television in India gave Jaaved, a platform to demonstrate his unique brand of comedy on Television in the 1990s. The first Indian Youth entertainment channel, ‘Channel V’ had hugely popular shows like VIDEOCON FLASHBACK and TIMEX TIMEPASS anchored by Jaaved  incorporating trademark puns, impersonations, characters, accents, and introducing the now ubiquitous HINGLISH to Indian audiences. 

This flagged off his foray into the Indian Television scene and soon Jaaved co-founded and judged India’s first ever dance reality show BOOGIE WOOGIE which has broken records and is Asia's longest running dance show covering 17 years- A fact recorded in the Limca Book of Records. The show opened the doorway to tens of thousands of dancers in India, from the biggest of cities to the smallest of towns and villages.

His other shows on TV include TELE HOUSIE, JBC - Jaaved Broadcasting Corporation (AAJTAK), CHITRAHAAR, TRUCK DHINADHIN (DD), CHAK DHOOM DOOM (COLORS), ONCE MORE WITH JAAVED JAAFERI and BACK TO FLASHBACK (EPIC)

Jaaved has also been a noted singer and voice artist with a signature baritone that a generation of Indians grew up on. His performance in the song ‘Mumbhai’ from the film  BOMBAY BOYS, which was conceived, written, choreographed by him, gained a cult status among the youngsters and was number 1 on the charts for 6 weeks.

In addition to the above he has also dubbed for Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Sher Khan and Don Carnage in Hindi for Disney. 

Scripted the Hindi version of Disney’s JUNGLE BOOK 2 and Pixar’s THE INCREDIBLES along with lending his voice to principal characters.

His character as CHARLIE ANNA in the first full fledged commercial animated film ROADSIDE ROMEO (a collaborative effort of YashRaj films and Disney) was highly appreciated. 

His commentary on the famous Japanese TV show TAKESHI'S CASTLE on Pogo TV has also garnered a huge cult fan following not only with kids but also adults.

He also produced a young  and trendy film  LET'S ENJOY (2003) and the Socially and politically impactful Documentary INSHALLAH FOOTBALL which won the National Award in 2012 and INSHALLAAH KASHMIR which won the National Award in 2013.

Jaaved has also hosted top Award shows like FILMFARE, SCREEN, PRODUCERS GUILD and IIFA. Furthermore, he has performed in over 200 Live Shows in India and abroad, and shared the stage with Michael Jackson, Sting, Spice Girls and Queen and the top Bollywood stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Sharukh Khan, Aamir Khan, AkshayKumar, Shankar Ehsan Loy etc.

He has also served as a Jury member in a number of International Film Festivals like GOLDEN MIMBAR FILM FESTIVAL (Kazan, 2008), FAJR FILM FESTIVAL (Iran, 2009,2016), KISH FILM FESTIVAL (Iran, 2011).

Jaaved Now

Along with his regular assignments that continue, Jaaved has recently produced and acted in a Hindi feature film titled ‘BMW- Bombay’s Most Wanted’. Which is in post production. 

He is also a founder member and patron of IDF (Indian Documentary Foundation), committed to producing and supporting path breaking documentaries and documentary makers in India. Under his patronage IDF has organized TRIGGER PITCH during INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OF KERALA (2011 & 2012)

His latest venture is a principal role in MONSOON WEDDING a musical theatre production, directed by Mira Nair and Composed by Vishal Bharadwaj, to be performed in Berkeley CA from 5th May to 7th July.
