Aaroh - Musical Fundraiser

Aaroh - the Sanskrit word was probably coined centuries ago and used to describe the ascending notes in a raaga. The band (AAROH) was founded  in early 2006  by a bunch of like-minded individuals who shared a common passion – music.   Founded by Vasanth Murthy, Lata Vasanth,  Manish Kurup and others, the band has for years hosted musical fundraisers.

The band hosted a musical fundraiser on Nov 19 at the St. John’s high school in Shrewsbury to support the expansion of the Sri Lakshmi Temple in Ashland, MA. The stage setting was a spectacular creation by Shobha Shastry of Alankar Decors.

The Aaroh band has grown and morphed over the years to include new artists but the original stalwarts Vasanth Murthy and Manish Kurup were part of this ensemble. So many lovely pieces were presented. There was a sweet moment when Vasanth, the senior most member of the group and Manish’s son, the junior most member of the group presented a duet.
Raghu Saranathan, Priya Iyer, Sudha Lakshmi, Shankar Gangaikondan Suzanna Naik along with Vasanth Murthy and the brilliant orchestra presented fabulous songs from a variety of Indian films. While the band may have changed, the quality was excellent.

The funds raised will go to support the construction of the auditorium and hall at the Sri Lakshmi Temple in Ashland, MA.
