Gandhi Jayanthi 2016

Bijoy Misra

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi was a transforming figure of the twentieth century.  Raised as a regular young boy, he reacted to the social injustice perpetrated against people because of the color of their skin or sigma on their social origin. Gandhi, called in India as Bapuji, evolved as a man and spent his life in searching the "truth", as he would label "the true nature of man".  He has been the most respected personality in the world in the modern times.

Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869.  We will do a local memorial event on next Sunday, October 2, at 4 PM to celebrate his birthday.  Ms. Ruth Hill, the civil rights activist and the Harvard oral Historian would be our guest of honor.  Dr. Pramod Thaker and Dr. C. Gopinath, the Gandhi scholars, will help lead the discussion.  We expect all participants to read short passages from Gandhi's writings to bring home the spirit of Gandhi's life and work.  We will end the afternoon with prayers and devotional songs by Ms. Preeti Nagar, our local vocalist.
