Ganesh Utsav Celebrations At Shirdi Sai Temple (NESSP)

Press Release
09/28/2016

Ganesh Chaturthi also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is one of the important Hindu festivals celebrated by Shirdi Sai Temple, Chelmsford (NESSP). Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated for 10 days from Bhadrapada Shudha Chaturthi to the Ananta Chaturdashi. On the last day of worship the idol is taken out in a colorful and musical procession to be immersed traditionally in water.

As per Hindu mythology Lord Ganesh is considered as "Vigana Harta" (one who removes obstacles) and "Buddhi Pradaayaka" (one who grants intelligence). Lord Ganesha is a deity who bestows good fortune, wisdom, success and prosperity. He destroys one`s sorrows and obstacles accumulated over the past and grants a new lease of life. The image of Ganesha is believed to absorb all the negativity in one`s household, as one offers prayers to him by way of chanting, offering plenty of tasty food, lighting lamp, dressing him up with devotion and praying to him sincerely. This idol is kept at home/temple for Pooja and then immersed in water, symbolic of dissolving all evil and negative energies that manifest in one`s life as sorrow and pain.

At shirdi sai temple, Chelmsford, the occasion became very lively and enthusiastic with the devotional songs, dances and drum beats being a part of the rituals observed by the devotees of Lord Ganesha, as part of the festivities. Throughout the ceremony, Vedic hymns were chanted by priests. Through out the 9 days the priests performed the pooja in the evenings followed by Ganesh aarti, while devotees offered Ganesha’s favorite dishes as Bhog.

The Visarjan(Immersion) procession happened on Thrusday, 15th September at  the Temple. All the devotees participated in Ganesh visarjan event and immersed in devotion with dancing to the Glory of the lord and prayed the lord for prosperity and peace, followed by Baba Dhoop aarti Aarti and Maha prasadam.

May the blessings of Sri Ganesha be showered upon you all! May He remove all the obstacles that stand in your spiritual path! May He bestow on you all material prosperity as well as liberation!
