A Night to Remember

This August 15th was a fantastic treat, celebrating India's 70th Independence Day at the U.N. , with a special concert by AR Rahman in honor of Carnatic music legend M Subbalakshmi's birth Centennary. This year also marks the 50th Ann. of M. Subbulakshmi  performing at the UN, the 1st Indian to do so.

Between the scene changes and acoustics of the UN General Assembly Hall, AR Rahman and his orchestra of underprivileged children gave a soulful performance to be remembered for a life time.

The concert was by invitation only and the 2500 guests did not mind standing in security line outside UN gates for an hour in 90 deg. NYC hot weather, waiting to be screened, to hear this once in a life time concert.

Of course, no 15th celebration is complete without lighting of the Empire State Building Tower with Orange, Green and White colors of the Tiranga. From a distance the Empire State Building looked like a dulhan draped in a tri colored 'audni' against the night sky..."Dulhan Chali, Teen Rang Ki Doli".

Thank you America, my fatherland for making my motherland India feel special on this day.
