In 1963, Bill Drayton, just 20 years old Harvard student, visited India. He travelled in India with Mr. Vinobha Bhave. Mr. Bhave is a gandhian who persuaded rich individuals to donate land to landless poor to break the poverty cycle. He collected 7 million acres of land as gift
(1). He witnessed the power of a simple idea to effect vast social change (2). Inspired by this experience, Mr. Bill Drayton started Ashoka foundation for social entrepreneurship in 1980.
Ashoka elects social innovators as fellows. ‘Ashoka Fellows are leading social entrepreneurs who we recognize to have innovative solutions to social problems and the potential to change patterns across society. They demonstrate unrivaled commitment to bold new ideas and prove that compassion, creativity, and collaboration are tremendous forces for change. Ashoka Fellows work in over 70 countries around the globe in every area of human need.’

In 1978 Jeffery Sachs as a young graduate student visited India. He asked himself “Why was this vast and ancient civilization [India] so impoverished? “, when he witnessed extreme poverty in India. Now he is the most well-known economist on poverty alleviation in the world

He has authored three New York Times bestsellers
There could be several wonderful examples of summer visits by students from US toIndia. We are molded and guided in our life by what we see and what you learn at a young age. Therefore, it is important to get exposed to as many new avenues as possible at a young age.

In 2016 we at Dr. Quinoa team want to offer internship in India for students from US. Dr. Quinoa team’s mission is to make nutritious food affordable. We are working with hundreds of farmers in different locations in India. We are producing, processing, packaging and selling
quinoa at affordable prices in Indian retails stores – thus making a bridge between the consumer and farmer. We launched Indian quinoa at 50% less than the current market price.

During the internship you could work with farmers or processing technology development or raising quality standards or checking the consumer needs by travelling to several cities in India. If you are interested to spend at least 3 months, please apply the ‘make nutritious
food affordable project internships’. In addition to your resume send an essay on ‘How to make nutritious food affordable?’ We will select three candidates for the year 2016. We provide accommodation, food and travel with in the India only. We hope to see some bright students visit
