Saheli Completes Third Computer Literacy Class In Quincy

On May 18, 2016, Saheli concluded its third basic computer literacy class for adults. The class ran for twelve weeks and offered training in email, Internet skills, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint at beginner and more skilled levels.

The class was held at the Thomas Crane Public Library in Quincy, MA. The Library donated a free computer lab and has been extremely supportive of the free classes that Saheli has offered.

Our exceptional teachers have made this class a great service to the Quincy community. From 6pm to 8pm every Wednesday evening, five volunteer teachers and four teaching assistants worked with a diverse group of students to build their computer skills and enhance workplace capabilities. Some teachers even came early and offered a hands-on lab and individualized instruction to those who needed it.

Saheli is deeply committed to social justice, equity and diversity. The free computer classes in Waltham and Quincy are opportunities for Saheli to help low-income residents and survivors of domestic violence. We thank Harvard Pilgrim Health Plan and their Community Spirit Award for the financial support that enables us to offer these classes.

We also are thankful to Vandana Sharma, our South Shore Coordinator, for single-handedly organizing this successful program; to Mr. Clayton Cheever, Assistant Library Director for his sustained support; and to our hardworking teachers and assistants for your commitment and dedication to social justice and equity. Volunteers are at the heart of what makes Saheli the thriving community service agency that it is today.

Classes will resume in the fall of 2016. If you would like to be involved, please contact us at info@saheliboston.org.
