Hindi Manch presents Chitrahaar Rerun on May 15, 2016

Hindi Manch, the New England based Non Profit Organization who work all year round to promote Hindi, Urdu languages and related dialects through Music, theatre, cultural events and literary sittings, is ready with the rerun of their super hit musical extravaganza ‘Chitrahaar’ on May 15th 2016  at Marlborough High School, Marlborough, MA. Chitrahaar has been one of the most successful shows staged by Hindi Manch and the last show in December 2015, which was held in Concord, was a huge success.

Director Anish Khanzode, who is one of the members of Sangeet Vibhag of Hindi Manch and is chairing this event as well, shared some details about the event.

Q. Chitrahaar was a complete Sold out event few months ago, why a rerun?
A. Chitrahaar was rated one of the best musical comedies in the New England Area and its unique format, the combination of great music/singing and fun comedy skits was very well received by the community. It became much talked about events in the area. We received several formal/informal requests of rerun as many people missed it and others simply wanted to enjoy it again.

Q. How did Chitrahaar conceptualize?
A. Hindi Manch has been successfully conducting a mega event, Hindi Manch SaReGaMaPa, a talent show which historically found many talented singers from New England Area. In 2012 after SaReGaMaPa concluded, we realized that semifinalists never get the audience they deserve, because they all perform in the afternoon of the final event day, due to time constraint. They are very good singers and they definitely required to be showcased to the much bigger audience. The team then came up with the Idea of Chitrahaar which showcases all semifinalists and Finalists of Hindi Manch SaReGaMaPa.

Q. What is the Format?
A. When we staged Chitrahaar first time in 2012, it was a tribute to some legendary artists of Hindi Film Fraternity, Shammi Kapoor, Dev Anand, Jagjit Singh, Rajesh Khanna and Yash Chopra who we lost in 2011-12. All the songs were performed by finalists and semifinalists of Hindi Manch SaReGaMaPa 2012. This year we are going to present Chitrahaar with a bit of a ‘Tadka’ and that Tadka is going to be on stage enactment of one of the episodes of a very famous Doordarshan’s television series.  Twenty One Semifinalists from Hindi Manch SaReGaMaPa 2014 will present some melodious Bollywood numbers and few very talented theater artists will stage the skit.

Q. Can you give us some details about the preparation?
A. All the singers get their freedom to choose their own song, however, we have a wonderful team of some renowned musicians, vocalists and music teachers who coach these singers throughout the practice sessions and often suggest them on the choice of the song based on singer’s ability and mood of the evening. The presentation of the skit is totally owned by Natya Vibhag of Hindi Manch, the theatre arm of the organization. The team picks up the theme and prepare it in such way that it is seamlessly sewn through this ‘Garland of the songs’.

Q. What should the community expect?
A. A wonderful evening with family and friends, some memorable Hindi songs, witness the versatility of few amazing singers from New England area, relive those Doordarshan days through some amazing local actors and much more.
