Press Release
04/07/2016

CREATIVE ARTS, A Non-Profit Community School for Theatre, Music and Art from Reading is collaborating with Academy of Creative Arts to bring their top notch Theatre and Acting program to the Academy of Creative Arts in Burlington, MA.

Creative Arts was founded in 1977 by a group of local parents concerned about arts in the community. Their goal was to serve elementary school children with enrichment programs, primarily in the visual arts. During the next ten years, programs were expanded to include music and adult classes. In 1988 Creative Arts became a member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts. Today Creative Arts provides cultural services to over 500 families from thirty communities year-round.

THEATRE & ACTING APRIL WORKSHOP - APRIL VACATION Theatre Program (Apr 18-22)

“CINDRELLA”(Ages 8-16 ) - This new version of the classic children's fairy tale has all the charm of the original story and all of the familiar characters: Cinderella and her stepsisters, the mean stepmother, the Fairy Godmother and, of course, the handsome prince. Dozens of other wonderfully creative characters provide plentiful opportunities to showcase students (boys and girls!) of all different skill levels.

Our theatre programs are 100% hands-on. Students will create the set, design the props and even sew their own costumes! We limit the number of students so that every child will get a speaking role and a chance to shine. Our instructors are professionals in their field and hold degrees in theatre. Our programs teach teamwork, confidence and a love of theatre!

BUILDING SELF-ESTEEM THROUGH DRAMA

In addition to building social and communication skills overall, involvement in drama courses and performance has been shown to improve students’ self-esteem as well as their confidence in their academic abilities.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Drama activities improve reading comprehension, and both verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • Students who are highly involved in drama demonstrate an elevated self-concept over those who are not involved .
  • Playwriting original works and dramatic presentation of existing works can help to build the self-esteem and communication skills of students.
  • The act of performing can help students and youth recognize their potential for success and improve their confidence
  • Drama improves academic performance - Numerous studies have demonstrated a correlation between drama involvement and academic achievement. In addition to having higher standardized test scores than their peers who do not experience the arts, student who participate in drama often experience improved reading comprehension, maintain better attendance records, and stay generally more engaged in school than their non-arts counterparts. Schools with arts-integrated programs, even in low-income areas, report high academic achievement.
