She is classically trained in Ayurveda. Vaidya Pattewar is the student of world renowned Dr. Vasant Lad and has learned pulse diagnosis under his guidance. She offers Ayurveda, nutritional and diet consultations at the Shri Dwarkamai Health and Wellness Center at the Sai Baba Temple in North Billerica, MA. Recently she has written and published Ayurveda Cookbook- Eating for mind, body and consciousness. Here is a short interview with Vaidya Aparna to know more about Ayurveda, her center and her book.

Tell us about your center in Dwarkamai temple, Billerica and the services provided for healing?

In this center I provide Ayurveda, lifestyle and diet consultations along with Marma Therapy, Mantra therapy and Chakra Healing. I also advice for Domestic Panchakarma. I do the pulse diagnosis of the patient to check the body type and find out the imbalances in the body. Then I provide guidance to achieve sound health.

Tell us about Ayurveda and its ideology for vibrant health?

Ayurveda is very ancient Vedic healing system. 5000 years ago our Rishis had explained this profound knowledge. Ayurveda is science of life and longevity and strongly believes in the principle of ‘prevention is better than cure’. According to Ayurveda each of us is made up with three bio-energies called Doshas, vata, pitta and kapha. Each Individual is made up with certain ratio and combination of these three bio-energies called or Prakruti / body type/constitution. Maintaining the original ratio of these three Doshas results in sound health.

Tell us how Ayurveda helps to achieve sound health?

Because of improper food, wrong lifestyle, seasonal or emotional changes, the original ratio and combination of the three bio-energies changes and it leads to diseases. This alter state of Prakruti is called Vikruti. With proper Ayurveda herbs, food combination, diet, lifestyle, pranayama, and yogasana we can achieve Prakruti again. Food is an important tool to achieve sound health. Recently I have written an Ayurveda cookbook explaining about importance of choosing right food for each body type.

Can you tell us your motivation behind writing the book?

Most of the diseases are caused by not choosing food according to body type. Eating food according to body type is really important to balance the three Doshas and achieve vibrant health. I saw many patients get wonderful results only because of doing correction in their diet. Many diet plans work only until the person follows it, but when they stop it, they gain weight and have other issues too. In my cookbook I have explained a very simple diet plan which anyone can follow in their daily life easily. Also nowadays people want to know more natural ways of healthy living and eating.

Can you tell us about the book and what exactly we should be looking for as a reader?

This book is divine blend of traditional Indian knowledge of Ayurveda and vegetarian recipes based on it. This book focuses on finding out your body type and gastric fire type and choosing food according to that. This book talks about Ayurveda perspective of food nutrition and also explains about cooking oil and spices and their effect on Doshas. The book has easy to make 75+ recipes as per 7 body types. These recipes are designed to balance Doshas, tissues in body, clean toxins, build immune system, cultivate a peaceful mind and importantly to encourage strong balanced digestion. This book also gives advice on proper and improper eating habits as per Ayurveda. This book is very beautiful with full hand drawn illustration and beautiful recipe pictures.

Where can we buy his book?

The book is available at Amazon and also people can buy it from my website www.aparnaayurveda.com

It is available in our Health and Wellness Center in North Billerica. It is also available in Ayurvedic Institute (New Mexico), Kripalu yoga center, Himalayan Institute, Good reads, Integral Yoga Institute in San Francisco and also available in many Yoga studios in Boston area.

Do you have healthy living advice for us? How can people incorporate Ayurveda into their daily lives even if they are not sick?

If you follow proper daily regimens (Dinacharya) and seasonal change regimens (Rutucharya) and proper diet according to the body constitution, one can attain disease-free living and sound health. Reduce stress by doing Pranayama, Mantra Chanting, Yoga and meditation every day. Lose extra body weight and feel energetic and vibrant. Eating healthy, losing extra body weight, reducing stress will definitely improve relationship also.

Any advice for enjoying the spring season without allergies?

Spring season is the king of all seasons. According to Ayurveda, all accumulated Kapha (mucus) from winter season starts thawing because of warmth of spring season. This liquefied Kapha floods our body channels, reduce appetite, slows digestion and creates seasonal allergies. So it is really essential to get rid of this excess Kapha from our bodies and achieve natural ratio of Kapha in our constitution. This procedure can be revitalizing event or it can trigger number of health challenges. Ayurveda can help to reduce or get rid of allergies with proper herbs and dietary changes.

Some useful tips to handle allergies.

1)  Drink luke warm water with 1 teaspoon of honey on empty stomach in the morning.

2)  Eat seasonal vegetables such as beets, carrot, radish, green vegetables, and seasonal fruits.

3)  Eat lighter and easily digestible foods and avoid heavy cold foods.

4)  Do daily Nasya with sesame oil or ghee. This helps to form protective layer on nasal tissues

5)  Reduce dairy products

6)  Drink Cumin, Coriander and Fennel Tea. This will keep digestion strong.

7)  Take Triphala at night with a cup of warm water to clean toxins from colon.

* please consider your allergies before following above tips
