Youth Forum - Reshma Goenka

02/04/2016

Sanya Goenka is 11yrs old from Wellesley, MA. Sanya recently raised money for the Light a Lamp Campaign of the American India Foundation LAMP program and shares her story on what inspired her to run this campaign.

"Every year when I went to India with my family on vacation I saw a lot of under-privileged kids on the streets who didn’t have any food and shelter. It broke my heart. My grandparents and parents have always taught my sister and me to help others in need. I wanted to help right away. I have raised money for different causes and charities in India, with my parents help, for the last 4 years.

However I saw no change in the situation for these kids - in fact it is getting worse each year. Last year my parents attended the AIF gala and told me about the Light a Lamp campaign. I was very excited and wanted to help out. Another reason I wanted to help with this cause is that every child has the right to a good education, just like me. With the help of family, friends, uncles and aunties I was able to raise over $3225 dollars for the light a lamp campaign which helped educate over 60 kids in India.

As Malala said - one child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world.

So let's get together and support the AIF light a lamp campaign and change the future of these little kids.
