TAGB's Sankranthi Celebrations were held at Whitomb Middle School in Marlboro, MA, on 23rd January, 2016, with aplomb and grandeur that were in complete contrast with the bleak outlook the weather presented that day.  Despite unrelenting snow showers and almost constant pummeling by forceful winds, Telugu community members from the Greater Boston area dressed defiantly in their festive best and braved the elements to grace the occasion.  They were warmly greeted by the Front Desk team and were immediately treated to colorful, traditional, and visually arresting displays of Sankranthi muggulu, gobbemmalu, and bommala koluvu.

The first community celebration for the year, kicked off by Cultural Secretary Satya Parakala, ran uninterruptedly for nearly 6 hours.  The programs were many, showing off the varied and multitude skills possessed by children and adults alike.  There were many colorful dances - both classical and otherwise, melodious singing of both keertanas and film songs, and also off beat programs such as a sloka avadhanam presented by Prajna kids, and an entertaining magic show by a mother and son duo.

The highlight of the evening was a Sangeetha Nritya Rupakam on Annamayya Jeevitha Charitra - this spell binding ballet is written and performed by Srinivas Bhalabhadrapatruni and directed by Padmaja Bhalabhadrapatruni, choreographed by Sailaja Chowdary Tummala. This mesmerizing ballet was performed by over 40 plus talented local artists for over an hour was well received with standing ovationby the audience with appreciation.
