Anuradha Warrier 01/27/2016 Nisha Pillai defines her art as something that invokes emotion in the viewer. The immense power of a visual art such as painting to evoke diverse emotions without the physical presence of the artist is what inspires Nisha to craft her paintings in different mediums. A sophomore at the Advanced Math and Science Charter School in Marlborough, MA, Nisha began painting four years ago. Initially, a hobby, sparked by an interest in her grandfather’s artwork, Nisha soon discovered a talent for what she calls ‘experimenting with acrylic’. An after-school program at Tiger’s Den in Littleton, MA, where Nisha has lived and studied (she moved to North Grafton a couple of months ago), introduced her to Mrs Alev Bowen, who helped Nisha hone a talent that has, in a few short years, made her an artist of promise. Nisha credits Mrs Bowen with helping her try new things as a novice artist, and to experiment with what she could do with the medium. Today, Nisha has expanded her work to working with glass painting and portraits as well. Sixteen-year-old Nisha claims that she is yet to find her niche, but the young artist has big dreams – she aims to eventually go into business, and hopes to incorporate her art into her business. A selection of Nisha Pillai’s favourite paintings in acrylic are on exhibit at: The Gallery at the Reuben Hoar Library, Littleton, MA. January 7 – February 4.
