Poem - September Remembered

Vijay Persad

SEPTEMBER REMEMBERED

We remember September
when airplanes exploded
and buildings burned,
when smoke, terror
and the face of death,
filled the morning skies.
We remember September
when bodies plummeted
and the broken towers
fell to the burning earth,
when tears creased down
the soot-covered faces .
We remember September
when our wounds lay bare,
our pride grew stronger
and our flag flew higher,
when the priests
and the rabbis
laid flowers upon,
the burning tombstones.
