Yugaantar Celebrates Kali Puja

Press Release
11/05/2015

Yugaantar celebrated Kali Puja at the United Methodist Church in Wilmington this past Saturday Oct. 31st. The puja was performed by priest Bhavani of the Durga Kali Temple, Burlington.

The hall resonated with chants invoking the Divine Mother through the beautiful fall afternoon. The goddess was decked out with traditional decorations created by the Yugaantar team members with a hand crafted backdrop resplendent in the traditional saffron and red colors. For a few moments one could imagine being transported bodily to one of the traditional Puja ceremonies back in India.

After Puja bhog distribution patrons were treated to a series of cultural programs. The events started with devotional songs and included a Halloween themed quiz program, a keenly contested Antakshari and a Halloween costume contest. The prime event of the evening was a foot -tapping rendition of songs.

At the conclusion of the cultural events a multi course dinner including traditional  Bengali goat meat and sweets, Kali Puja staples, was served and greatly enjoyed by the patrons. Please see Yugaantar's website at www.yugaantar.org for more information.
