Bridging The Healthcare Divide - Health Services For Rural India

Dr. Mukul Bhatia is the founder and national coordinator for the health initiative at Ekal, an NGO with the largest footprint in rural remote villages. Working in over 54,000 villages,  Dr. Bhatia has created a model whereby doctors, public health centers and local villagers  can work together to improve the health conditions in the villages. A large focus on Anemia has led to significant improvements in women’s health.  A surgeon by training, Dr. Bhatia has spent over 20 years of his career focused addressing the challenges in remote rural villages and supporting villagers during disasters. He worked in the Tsunami affected Andaman islands and most recently in Nepal when the earthquake struck. He will share his experiences bringing health services to remote rural villages in India.He will also talk about pre-med Internship .
